Responsibilities

• Hands-on software development of features within enterprise client-server applications using the appropriate technology
• Participate in Agile Scrum development ceremonies, planning, estimation, design, retrospectives and reviews
• Work closely with Business Analysts and the Product Owner to understand the functionality to be developed
• Work within the development governance framework, including adherence to coding standards, code reviews, unit and integration testing, UX guidelines and automated testing
• Ensure development skills are kept up to date and maintain awareness of new developments in the software industry
• Make effective and responsible use of AI productivity tools, including GitHub Copilot, to support development efficiency, code quality, learning and continuous improvement
• Ensure all software developed conforms to the appropriate technical and design standards
• Take end-to-end ownership of complex features and technical outcomes, working with minimal direction
• Break down ambiguous requirements, identify risks and dependencies, and define a pragmatic delivery approach
• Design robust solutions and make balanced trade-offs across maintainability, scalability, security, performance, user experience and technical debt
• Influence technical decisions through clear recommendations, constructive challenge and collaboration across disciplines
• Mentor other developers, provide effective code and design reviews, and help raise engineering capability across the team
• Take ownership of production issues through diagnosis, resolution, learning and preventative improvement

Essential experience & skills

• Seniority and delivery ownership
  • 8+ years’ experience developing enterprise client-server desktop applications; this is an expected level of experience rather than a substitute for evidence of senior-level capability and impact
  • Demonstrable experience independently delivering complex features, working through ambiguity and taking end-to-end ownership of technical outcomes
  • Proven ability to design robust, scalable and maintainable solutions, balancing performance, security, user experience and technical debt
  • Experience mentoring developers, performing code reviews and raising engineering capability across a team

• Core Microsoft development stack
  • C# and .NET Framework 4.8 and .NET 8 or later
  • Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) UI framework - Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML)
  • Strong SQL Server database design and development skills
  • Windows System Services

• Architecture, integration and performance
  • Object-oriented design and development, including patterns such as MVVM
  • RESTful APIs, web services and API-driven service architectures, including service-layer and repository patterns
  • Event-driven and asynchronous integration using messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ
  • Domain-Driven Design (DDD), CQRS and mediator-based architecture patterns, e.g. MediatR
  • Dependency injection, separation of concerns and maintainable software design principles
  • High-performing, multi-threaded and real-time software development
• Engineering quality, tooling and productivity
  • Unit testing with MSTest or NUnit and mock frameworks such as Moq
  • Source code version control - Team Foundation Version Control (TFVC) and Git
  • Microsoft Visual Studio and Azure DevOps for source control, work tracking and delivery workflows
  • Responsible use of AI productivity tools, including GitHub Copilot, with appropriate engineering judgement, review and quality controls
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across application, service, database and integration layers
  • Awareness of secure coding practices, vulnerability remediation and the importance of security in mission-critical software
• Agile delivery and cloud environments
  • Proven experience working with Agile software development methodologies, including Scrum and Kanban
  • Experience using Azure or other cloud environments
