At Unilever, our products are used by billions of people around the world every day. At our Rexdale manufacturing site, you will help improve how those products are made by turning ideas, data, and hands-on problem solving into practical improvements on the factory floor.
We are looking for a Continuous Improvement Engineer who is curious, collaborative, and motivated to solve real manufacturing challenges. You will work closely with production, maintenance, and site teams to reduce losses, improve equipment performance, strengthen standards, and build more reliable ways of working.
This is a great opportunity for a recent engineering graduate or early-career professional who wants to build hands-on manufacturing experience, develop strong problem-solving skills, and see the direct impact of their work on safety, quality, cost, delivery, and team capability.
Main Responsibilities
• Analyze production downtime, material waste, changeover losses, and process performance data to identify improvement opportunities.
• Investigate manufacturing problems, identify root causes, and support practical solutions that can be sustained by the team.
• Apply continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methods to eliminate waste, reduce operational losses, and improve line performance.
• Build knowledge of processing and packaging equipment while developing hands-on troubleshooting capabilities.
• Develop clear technical standards, standard work instructions, and simple tools that help teams maintain stable, repeatable processes.
• Partner with production and maintenance colleagues during improvement activities, encouraging ideas and input from the people closest to the work.
• Provide practical coaching to help colleagues use structured problem-solving and continuous improvement methods.
• Manage small improvement projects from initial idea through implementation, follow-up, and sustainment.
Your work will help the factory:
• Improve the reliability and efficiency of manufacturing processes.
• Reduce production losses and material waste.
• Make better decisions using accurate data and evidence.
• Strengthen technical standards and consistent ways of working.
• Build problem-solving capability across production and maintenance teams.
Required Qualifications
• A bachelor’s degree in engineering.
• 0-2+ years of experience in continuous improvement, manufacturing, engineering, packaging, or related project work.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
• The ability to use data to identify patterns, understand problems, and recommend actions.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills.
• A collaborative approach and a willingness to learn directly from production and maintenance colleagues.
Helpful Qualifications
The following would be an advantage.
• Experience in a fast-moving consumer goods or consumer packaged goods environment.
• Exposure to lean manufacturing or other continuous improvement methods.
• Knowledge of statistical process control, equipment reliability, operational productivity, or structured loss analysis.
• Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
