Job Description
Reporting to: Functional Engineering Lead – HROC
Job Purpose:
In this role, you will be responsible to operate cement plant within a designated region. You will collaborate effectively across departments & plant team to achieve shared goals. You will collaborate closely with plant teams to run the plant equipment achieving the best KPI’s, troubleshoot & communicate issues, and reports the tasks to be done on site. Occasional travel to the plant sites supported will be required.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to maximize efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize product quality. Analyze data, conduct trails and recommend adjustments to process parameters, equipment and operating procedures.
- Troubleshooting and Problem Solving: Serve as the primary technical resource for plant teams in diagnosing and resolving process performance issues, equipment malfunctions, and product quality concerns. Provide expertise, propose solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement corrective actions.
- Production Planning and Coordination: Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to develop and execute production plans. Ensure that production targets are met while maintaining compliance with safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
- Continuous Improvement: Drive a culture of continuous improvement by actively seeking opportunities to enhance operational efficiency, reduce waste, and increase productivity. Implement best practices, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and initiate improvement projects.
- Process Monitoring and Control: Monitor key process parameters, collect, and analyze data, and ensure adherence to established operating parameters. Optimize process control strategy and maintain process control system tools (including advanced process control systems like expert systems) to optimize process performance and maintain product quality within specifications.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations, promote a safe working environment, and actively participate in safety initiatives. Monitor and manage environmental aspects of the process to minimize environmental impact in particular CO2 footprint and comply with environmental regulations.
- Training and Knowledge Sharing: Provide training and guidance to operations and maintenance personnel on process-related topics. Share knowledge and best practices with team members to enhance overall competency and understanding of the cement manufacturing process. Provide coaching and guidance to control room operators.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of process parameters, equipment maintenance, and operational procedures. Prepare regular reports on process performance, KPIs, and improvement initiatives for management review.
Job Qualifications, Requirements & Experience:
Education
- Engineering degree preferably chemical engineering
- Minimum 8 years previous experience in cement plant operations.
- Knowledge of control system principles, distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controllers (PLC), human-machine interfaces (HMI), and process automation.
- Basic understanding of maintenance requirements and equipment behavior.
- Ability to monitor multiple process areas simultaneously and prioritize actions
- Willingness to work in shift operations (24/7 plant environment)
- Experience with Expert systems & sound understanding of the whole cement process and quality aspects.
- High level of attention to detail and safety awareness.
- Training and coaching abilities.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills, especially with field operators and quality teams.
- Ability to communicate fluently and effectively with international stakeholders in English.
- A proactive team player who thrives in a cooperative, high-energy environment.
