Job Description

About FitMate FitMate is a consumer nutrition coaching company. We help people make lasting changes to how they eat, and we care about getting the details right. We are a small company with a small amount of process. You will not have to deal with Jira, KPAs or answer to the Assistant Scrum Master Agile Coach here. The role is 100% remote. You must live in the United States; we cannot sponsor a visa. You will be working directly with an experienced engineer, you will not be expected to already know everything and a good candidate will learn a lot of valuable skills quickly in this role. About this role You will build and polish the interfaces we have for both end users, our coaches, and our internal team: Generally we use Svelte on the web and React Native on mobile but are open to any tech stacks if there is a strong argument to use it. Many of our web applications use Astro which allows us to use a variety of frontend frameworks. We are open to fresh graduates, self-taught developers, and people without a computer science degree. Experience with Svelte or React Native specifically is not required. We look at what you have made and how you think about it, and value your ability to express yourself, learn new things, and contribute to a team far more than any formal education. What you'll do Turn rough product ideas into clear, responsive, accessible experiences. Notice weak interactions, visual inconsistencies, and confusing copy, then improve them. Move between frontend implementation, product judgment, design, and writing as the work requires. Learn unfamiliar tools and product areas quickly. What matters A good design eye, and clear reasons for the choices you make. Strong attention to detail, in interface work and in how you write. Excellent, concise writing. Evidence of ownership and follow-through on something you finished. Fast learning, honest reflection, and useful iteration. Enough frontend foundation to build and debug real interfaces with support. Good skills to have Comfortable with using Git in a team (code review, conflict resolution, etc) Knowledgeable about accessibility and responsive design Good understanding of LLM strengths and limitations across coding and in-app use cases Experience working in an environment compliant with SOC 2 and HIPAA
