The MCU Engineering team plays a critical role in delivering the scalable platform capabilities that power H1's products. Our engineers build the services, APIs, event-driven systems, and user experiences that transform complex healthcare data into fast, reliable, and intuitive products used by life sciences organizations around the world. Working across modern cloud infrastructure, distributed systems, and AI-enabled technologies, this team solves challenging technical problems at scale while partnering closely with Product, Design, and Data Engineering to continually improve the performance, reliability, and capabilities of our platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO AT H1 As a Software Engineer II on our MCU team, you will contribute to the delivery of meaningful product capabilities across the full stack, working closely with senior engineers, Product, and Design to build scalable, high-performing applications that power H1's platform. This role is ideal for an engineer who is growing their full-stack skill set, eager to take on increasing ownership, and excited to solve real-world distributed systems challenges in a collaborative environment. You will: - Contribute to features end-to-end from implementation and testing through deployment and production support, with guidance from senior team members - Develop and maintain APIs, backend services, and distributed microservice architectures - Implement and optimize PostgreSQL schemas, queries, and indexes for large-scale applications - Build and maintain Kafka-based event-driven systems, including producers, consumers, and consumer groups - Develop and optimize Elasticsearch indexes, mappings, and search queries for high-volume search workloads - Support applications running in Kubernetes environments, including basic operational troubleshooting - Contribute to AWS-based cloud infrastructure and participate in Spark and EMR data workflows supporting the platform - Build and maintain full-stack applications across React frontends and NestJS backend services - Participate in code reviews and architecture discussions, learning and applying engineering best practices - Partner with Product and Design to translate business requirements into reliable technical solutions - Contribute to improving system reliability, observability, and performance through thoughtful engineering decisions ABOUT YOU You're a curious and motivated engineer who enjoys solving technical problems and taking increasing ownership of the software you build. You're eager to deepen your knowledge of distributed systems and cloud-native development, and you're excited to build high-impact products that improve healthcare outcomes. REQUIREMENTS - 3–5 years of professional software engineering experience building production-grade applications - Experience developing APIs, backend services, and/or microservices in a distributed systems environment - Hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js, with exposure to delivering customer-facing full-stack features - Working knowledge of PostgreSQL, including database design, querying, and basic performance considerations - Familiarity with Kafka or other event-driven messaging systems - Exposure to Elasticsearch or similar search technologies - Familiarity with cloud-native development practices using Kubernetes and AWS - Solid understanding of software fundamentals, including debugging, testing, and writing maintainable code - Good communication and collaboration skills, with a willingness to ask questions and contribute to team discussions.Bonus Skills - Experience with Python/PySpark or similar technologies for data processing workflows Exposure to Golang - Interest in or early experience building AI-powered applications or integrating LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic); familiarity with RAG architectures or frameworks such as LangChain or Vercel AI SDK is a bonus COMPENSATION This role pays $110,000 to $135,000 per year, based on experience, in addition to stock options.
