EDI Support Subject Matter Expert (SME)
About the Role
The EDI Support Subject Matter Expert (SME) serves as a key resource supporting the reliability, performance, and continuous improvement of Castrol's EDI ecosystem. This role provides functional and technical expertise across EDI operations, SAP integrations, trading partner onboarding, issue resolution, and process optimization.
The position partners closely with business teams, IT&S, external vendors, and trading partners to support seamless electronic transactions and ensure critical customer-facing processes operate efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
EDI Operations & Support Analyze and support resolution of EDI transaction, mapping, and integration issues.
Verify root cause analysis outcomes for production incidents and recommend or confirm corrective actions.
Monitor EDI transaction flows and identify opportunities to improve system reliability.
Support resolution of complex document processing and interface exceptions.
Trading Partner Onboarding
Support onboarding of new customers, distributors, and trading partners.
Review and interpret customer EDI requirements and specifications.
Coordinate testing activities and support successful implementation and go-live activities.
Validate transaction compliance and connectivity requirements.
Mapping & Integration Support
Support EDI mapping development, enhancement, and validation activities.
Provide expertise on SAP IDOCs, Order-to-Cash and logistics processes, and EDI transaction standards.
Partner with business stakeholders, IT&S and integration providers to evaluate and validate proposed solutions.
Assist with testing, defect analysis, and production readiness activities.
Subject Matter Expertise & Consultation
Act as a trusted EDI advisor to business teams, IT&S, and support organizations.
Provide consultation and knowledge sharing on EDI processes, standards, and best practices.
Support documentation, training materials, and operational procedures.
Serve as an escalation resource for complex EDI-related issues.
Continuous Improvement
Identify opportunities to improve EDI processes, monitoring, and support effectiveness.
Recommend automation and process enhancements that improve efficiency and reduce manual effort.
Support digital transformation initiatives involving integration and customer connectivity.
Qualifications
Required
Experience supporting Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) business processes.
Working knowledge of ANSI X12, EDIFACT and cXML transaction standards.
Experience troubleshooting EDI transactions, mappings, and document flows.
Deep understanding of SAP IDOCs used in Order-to-Cash and logistics processes
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.
Ability to work effectively across cross-functional business and technical teams.
Preferred
Experience with OpenText/GXS, SPS Commerce, or similar EDI platforms.
Experience supporting customer onboarding and trading partner implementations.
Experience developing or validating EDI mappings.
Knowledge of operational support models and incident management processes.
