Job Description

We are looking for an experienced Business Generation manager, based in our Edinburgh or Glasgow office, to provide maternity leave cover for the Scottish business, leading business development, marketing, bidding and client engagement activities across our Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen offices. The role supports growth across our four core business segments: Real Estate, Infrastructure, Defence and Energy & Natural Resources, with a focus on enhancing market profile, developing client relationships, generating opportunities and driving revenue growth.

Working closely with the regional senior leadership team, the Business Generation Manager will play a key role in delivering the regional growth strategy through strategic positioning, brand enhancement, pipeline development, bid management and key account support. This is a hands-on role requiring both strategic thinking and practical delivery, including the management of integrated marketing campaigns, communications, events, complex bids and client relationship initiatives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for articulating and promoting our value proposition, identifying and pursuing business opportunities, supporting key client programmes and leading work-winning activities across the region. As a key member of the regional team, the role will drive strategic business initiatives, strengthen market presence and support sustainable growth across the Scottish business.

Responsibilities

Marketing and communications

  • Lead the development and delivery of regional marketing and communications activities across Scotland, ensuring a consistent and engaging flow of content through digital, social, PR and traditional channels.
  • Deliver targeted marketing campaigns that enhance market profile, drive client engagement and support lead generation across key sectors.
  • Produce high-quality marketing collateral, thought leadership, client insights, case studies and press content aligned to strategic business objectives.
  • Provide marketing guidance and support to technical teams, helping them maximise the effectiveness of social media, communications and promotional activities.
  • Develop and maintain a programme of brand-building activities, translating market trends and business priorities into impactful campaigns and initiatives.
  • Support the delivery of internal communications plans and generate a consistent drumbeat of news and success stories to raise internal and external profile.
  • Conduct market research and competitor analysis to inform positioning, client engagement approaches and growth strategies.

 

Bidding and work winning

  • Champion and embed the firm's bid-to-win methodology, driving best practice in bid planning, management, positioning and proposal development.
  • Work alongside technical teams to develop compelling, high-quality bids, ensuring clear win themes, strong storytelling and client-focused solutions.
  • Lead and coordinate strategic pursuits, facilitating pursuit team development and supporting the production of winning submissions.
  • Manage bid resources and coordinators across Scotland, ensuring effective delivery, governance and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and report on pipeline activity, bid performance and conversion rates, holding teams accountable for pursuit quality and work-winning excellence.
  • Support the development of new client propositions and value-led solutions that strengthen competitive positioning and revenue growth.

 

Business development & client growth

  • Partner with regional leadership and key account teams to identify growth opportunities, strengthen client relationships and support pipeline generation.
  • Translate business strategy and market intelligence into targeted growth initiatives that enhance market presence and support revenue objectives.
  • Support key account management activities, helping to identify opportunities, develop relationships and expand services with existing and prospective clients.
  • Champion regional and national Business Generation initiatives, driving collaboration, knowledge sharing and adoption of best practice across the business.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver against tight deadlines in fast-paced environments.
  • Agile, adaptable, and comfortable working in entrepreneurial and dynamic business settings.
  • Excellent copywriting and communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging for different audiences, channels, and platforms.
  • Experienced in bid, proposal, and pitch writing, effectively articulating business capability, value, and credibility.
  • Confident adviser on marketing and business development best practices.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, building effective relationships and influencing at all levels of the organisation.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, able to work independently, take initiative, and drive outcomes.
  • Results-focused with a positive, "can-do" approach and a strong commitment to execution.
  • Professional services experience, with knowledge of the UK real estate, infrastructure, and energy & natural resources sectors.
  • Effective team player and leader, collaborating successfully across diverse teams and functions.
  • Thrives under pressure and works effectively at pace to support evolving business needs.

Qualifications

  • Experience across business development, marketing, communications in the professional services sector, ideally within the built environment
  • A relevant degree
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Detailed knowledge and experience of the advisory/consultancy/real estate sector an advantage  
  • Demonstrable commitment to and skills for developing the performance of junior colleagues 
  • Professional membership of a recognised institution
