The Position

As the global headquarters, the Basel / Kaiseraugst site is our premier fully integrated Site.

The role

As a member of the Sites Network Enabling team, the Site Head Basel / Kaiseraugst will serve as a strategic leader overseeing the site services organizations to ensure our infrastructure sets global operational benchmarks. This executive will step into a highly visible, enterprise-level role operating at the pinnacle of corporate, political, and social impact.

The role demands a seasoned leader who can balance local strategies with global ambitions, and collaborate with internal and external partners to maintain a world class, competitive work environment.

Your Responsibilities

  • Driving site evolution and long-term development planning, balancing quality and cost through external benchmarking and strong expertise to deliver fit-for-purpose infrastructure, integrated services, and high-impact business opportunities in alignment with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proactively anticipating market shifts and geopolitical dynamics to position the site for long-term growth and deliver a fit-for-purpose, advanced infrastructure that keeps business functions cost-effective and competitive.   

  • Providing leadership, inspiration, and development to local site service organizations (engineering, facility management, Safety, Health and Environment(SHE), security, and campus services), including managing external providers.

  • Strategically representing the company to external bodies, including authorities, employer and employee organizations, neighbors, and public stakeholders, leveraging strong political acumen and media skills to safeguard reputation and foster trusted community relationships. 

  • Fostering an inclusive culture and exceptional physical workplace, positioning Roche as an “Employer of Choice”. 

  • Establishing industry-leading Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) benchmarks, actively influencing the regional sustainability approach and carbon-neutrality goals.

  • Protecting Roche’s right to operate by maintaining rigorous governance standards, ensuring legal compliance and maintaining robust business continuity, security, and environmental health and safety practices.

  • Actively participating in the Global Sites Network Team to shape the global sites network strategy and maximize collaborative impact, skillfully balancing your integration into the global network with a strong, dedicated connection to the local Basel/Kaiseraugst site. 

Who you are

You have an advanced degree (MA, MS, MBA, PhD) and 15+ years of senior executive leadership (General/Site Management or major function) within a highly matrixed, international environment. You possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills and a proven track record of thriving under high-pressure, volatile conditions across multiple divisions (Pharma, Diagnostics, Corporate) with a deep understanding of regulatory frameworks and compliance.

Additionally, you bring the following skills and competences:

  • Exceptional executive presence with an established background in influencing board-level stakeholders, political entities, and external public networks.

  • Proven ability to align internal and external interests, fostering robust alliances across global enterprise functions and industry partners as a strategic collaborator.

  • You are a strategic , articulate and persuasive communicator, capable of translating complex corporate objectives into compelling narratives for diverse audiences. 

  • Considerable experience running a site (or significant portions of one), including leading large capital projects within cGMP-regulated environments, compliance, and quality standards.

  • Strong business and financial acumen, with extensive experience managing large CAPEX/OPEX budgets and driving major global investment proposals.

  • Visionary leadership with a proven history of coaching teams through systemic organization.al changes and complex global initiatives.

  • Deep-rooted understanding of the unique regional context, operational ecosystem, and evolving needs of the Basel / Kaiseraugst site.

  • Full professional proficiency and effortless negotiation skills in both German and English are required; knowledge of the local Swiss context is a distinct advantage.
