Forward Deployed Engineer

Job Description
About the Role
This is a high-ownership, forward-deployed engineering role at an early-stage healthtech AI company building an AI-powered payer intelligence platform for procedural medical specialties — think vascular surgery, interventional cardiology, and interventional radiology. The platform automates the full payor compliance lifecycle: benefits verification, medical necessity audits, prior authorization, and appeals.
You'll own the integration layer between the platform and the real-world provider and insurance systems it serves. Sitting directly between the founding team and clients, you'll translate messy healthcare workflows into clean technical solutions — building APIs, scrapers, and custom integrations that make the product fit seamlessly into each practice's stack. You'll ship fast, learn the US healthcare landscape deeply, and directly impact how surgical practices operate.
What You'll Do
Build and maintain integrations with provider practices and insurance systems — using APIs where they exist, scrapers and RPA where they don't
Join client discovery sessions with founders to map real-world workflows and translate them into technical requirements
Ship custom integrations quickly and iterate based on real-world feedback
Contribute to the core product when integration work isn't the bottleneck
Develop deep working knowledge of the US provider/payer landscape
What We're Looking For
Required:
2–5 years of full-stack engineering experience building and shipping features end-to-end
Startup background — comfortable with broad ownership, ambiguity, and small teams
Experience owning features or products from discovery through delivery
Proven track record integrating with third-party APIs
Proficiency in Python and FastAPI (or equivalent backend frameworks)
Proficiency in React and TypeScript (or equivalent frontend technologies)
Active user of AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) with shipped production work
Strong communication skills — able to clearly articulate technical problems and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
Strong Pluses:
Experience building web scrapers or RPA solutions
Background in US healthcare, or working with provider/payer systems
AWS or GCP cloud infrastructure experience
Production LLM application development beyond AI coding assistants
Tech Stack: Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Postgres, AWS, GCP, GitHub
Visa sponsorship: Not available.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $150,000 – $230,000 USD annually, depending on experience
Early-stage equity opportunity
Location
This is a hybrid role based in Los Angeles, CA (New York City candidates also considered). In-person presence is required when called upon, and some travel should be expected for client engagements.
