Product Engineer (Mid-Level)

Job Description
About the Role
We're a small, fast-moving team building an AI-driven platform that's reshaping how talent connects with companies. As a Mid-Level Product Engineer, you'll work directly with founders, product, and design to own features end-to-end — from scoping to production. You'll help shape technical direction at an early stage, integrate AI/LLM capabilities into real product flows, and ship reliable, user-focused experiences that make a measurable difference.
This is a high-ownership role suited to engineers who thrive in ambiguity, care deeply about the product, and are comfortable moving fluidly between frontend, backend, and DevOps responsibilities.
What You'll Do
Own end-to-end product features from requirements and scoping through to deployment in production.
Design APIs and data models; implement both frontend and backend code.
Ship user-facing experiences that balance usability and performance, iterating based on feedback and metrics.
Integrate LLM and AI capabilities into product flows to make intelligence reliable and practical for end users.
Design and implement scalable backend services, data schemas, and operational tooling (CI/CD, monitoring, testing, observability).
Collaborate directly with founders and cross-functional teammates to prioritize work and define success metrics.
Contribute to architecture and roadmap discussions, making pragmatic tradeoffs appropriate for early-stage growth.
What We're Looking For
Required:
2–8 years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping user-facing products.
Strong full-stack skills: TypeScript and React/Next.js on the frontend; Python or Node.js on the backend.
Experience with PostgreSQL and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
Practical, production-grade experience integrating LLMs or AI services into applications (engineering focus, not research).
Demonstrated product sense — ability to translate user problems into practical, measurable solutions.
Experience implementing monitoring, observability, and automated testing as part of CI/CD pipelines (metrics, tracing, logging, health checks).
Comfort operating in small teams with limited process and high ambiguity, moving between frontend, backend, and DevOps tasks.
Nice to Have:
Experience building multi-tenant or enterprise-ready systems, real-time systems, or high-throughput applications.
Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Cursor).
Background in a regulated industry (healthcare, fintech, legal) or building complex internal tools.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $150,000 – $300,000 USD annually (commensurate with experience)
Early-stage equity opportunity
Visa sponsorship: Not available

This role is on-site in San Francisco, CA. You'll be working closely with a tight-knit founding team in person.
