Job Description

Who we are - Our Mission terralayr addresses the massive deficit in global energy storage. The over-indexing of electricity generation from renewable energy sources leads to large volatility on the energy grid. The main problem is that wind and solar farms are fluctuating and, by definition, unsteady – there is no sun at night, and it is not always windy. This increases the need for flexibility in the form of battery storage systems to balance the grid in times when supply and demand do not match. By buying and developing grid-scale storage assets and virtually aggregating them across a layer, we are creating the world’s first energy cloud. Imagine AWS for energy. Through the flexibility we secure, we can market flexibility-as-a-service and hedging products/power insurance to utilities, SMEs, and industrial players and create virtual storage capacity for PV and wind farms. What we are hiring for - Your Role As Strategic Asset Growth Manager (m/f/d) for energy storage in the German market, you will play a key role in growing terralayr’s pipeline of battery energy storage projects beyond our existing partner network. To do this you will need the skills, experience and confidence to identify, screen and close M&A opportunities on both the buy-side and the sell-side, to form new strategic relationships with third-party developers and other stakeholders in the energy storage ecosystem, and to open up new sources of projects for our in-house (greenfield) development team. The successful applicant will own terralayr’s growth funnel from first contact to signed agreement, be able to assess and contribute to project financial models, commercial portfolio analysis, term sheets and transaction documents, and prepare opportunities for investment decisions. The role sits within the Asset Development team at terralayr. The Strategic Asset Growth Manager will report directly to our VP Asset Development and work closely with a dynamic, cross-functional team across Finance, Legal, Project Delivery and Strategy & Commercial to achieve our ambitious growth targets. What you will work on - Your Responsibilities M&A: acquisitions and sales – Originate, screen and execute acquisitions of storage projects and project portfolios (single assets, pipeline buy-outs, share deals), from NDA and information memorandum through non-binding and binding offers, due diligence coordination and SPA/APA negotiation. Run sell-side processes for projects or portfolios terralayr decides to divest: buyer long-lists, process letters, data rooms, bidder Q&A and offer evaluation, together with Finance and Legal. New development partners – Source, evaluate and onboard new exclusive development partners as well as co-development and co-investment partners. Negotiate framework agreements, term sheets and partnership structures, and hand signed partnerships over to the partner-management team for day-to-day project delivery. Stranded pipeline and in-house growth – Identify and secure stranded or distressed pipeline (projects with land and/or grid access that their developers cannot take further), dormant or previously declined leads, and DSO/TSO or municipal tenders, and convert them into projects for terralayr’s in-house greenfield development team. New markets – Lead the structured exploration of new geographies and new revenue streams for storage (for example co-location with generation, behind-the-meter and industrial applications, flexibility for large loads, high- and extra-high-voltage connections): market screening, regulatory assessment, business case and a clear recommendation for Senior Management and the Board. Investment decisions and reporting – Screen opportunities and run first financial models based on agreed company standards and metrics, prepare opportunities for the Investment Committee, and provide regular growth-funnel reporting to the VP Asset Development and Senior Management. What we are looking for - Your Qualifications Qualification – Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Energy, Economics, Law or a related field. A STEM degree combined with business and an energy focus is the preferred profile. Experience – 3+ years in energy or infrastructure M&A, business development, transaction advisory, strategy consulting or project development in Germany, including personal responsibility for transaction processes from NDA to signing. Prior work on battery storage or renewables projects is a strong plus. Commercial and financial acumen – Able to build and challenge project financial models, assess project viability against investment criteria, and lead negotiations on term sheets, framework agreements and purchase agreements together with Legal. Regulatory and market knowledge – Working knowledge of German energy regulation and the storage development process from grid connection to permit, and of the German storage and renewables market, its players and transaction activity. Strategic thinking – Can structure an ambigu
