Roland Berger
Junior Consultant 2027
London, England, gb · Posted 1h ago
Job Description
Life as a Junior Consultant
As a Junior Consultant, you’ll work as part of project teams to help clients solve complex business problems and make important decisions.
Your work could involve analysing data, researching markets, building financial or operational models, developing strategies, exploring new technologies or helping a client respond to major change.
No two projects are the same. You’ll work across different industries, clients and challenges, giving you the opportunity to build a broad set of skills and discover where your interests and strengths lie.
You’ll be given meaningful responsibility from an early stage, while working closely with experienced colleagues who will support you along the way.
Where the Work Takes You
Hybrid working and travel are an important and expected part of this role from day one.
Our people work across a combination of locations, including the Roland Berger office in London, remotely, at client sites across the UK and, depending on the project, potentially at international client or project locations.
You may spend extended periods working alongside clients or as part of a wider project team, as well as working from the office or remotely.
You should therefore be comfortable working flexibly across different environments and travelling regularly, sometimes at short notice, to meet the needs of your projects and clients.
Learning without Limits
When you join Roland Berger, you’ll be aligned to our Transaction & Investor Support (TIS) platform as your primary area of focus, with particular opportunities across Regulated & Infrastructure and Industrials. We are also continuing to build and strengthen our Value Creation Proposition across these areas, creating exciting opportunities to support clients throughout the investment and value creation lifecycle.
Your platform alignment provides a clear starting point for your development and helps build deep expertise in our core areas of growth. However, it does not limit the range of projects, clients or topics you can experience.
As a Junior Consultant, you’ll have the opportunity to work across different platforms, industries and topics depending on the needs of our business and our clients. This breadth is an important part of developing into a well-rounded consultant and means you may find yourself working on challenges and in sectors that are new to you when you join.
What you’ll bring
We know that great consultants come from many different backgrounds, and your degree subject is only one part of what you bring to the table.
We’re particularly interested in candidates who have developed strong analytical thinking, quantitative reasoning, structured problem-solving and commercial awareness. Degrees in STEM, management and economics-related subjects can provide a strong foundation for these skills. Equally, candidates from humanities, languages, law, social sciences and other disciplines can bring valuable strengths of their own, from research and critical thinking to communicating complex ideas, building compelling arguments and seeing problems from different perspectives.
What matters most is how you think, how you approach problems and how effectively you can turn information into insight. You’ll need to be able to structure information clearly, analyse and challenge what you see, and communicate your ideas confidently in both written and verbal English. We’re looking for people who are genuinely curious about business and consulting, enjoy learning quickly and are motivated by solving challenging problems.
You should be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:1 equivalent or above in either 2026 or 2027, and have gained at least eight weeks of work experience. This doesn’t need to be a traditional internship, a combination of part-time work, internships, volunteering, academic projects or other experiences can all demonstrate the skills and behaviours we’re looking for.
Consulting is also a highly collaborative and mobile profession. From the outset, you will have the opportunity to work across different platforms, so an openness to learning about new industries, clients and challenges is essential.
Skills that will help you stand out
Alongside the core qualities, there are some skills and experiences that can give you an additional advantage. strong Microsoft Excel skills, including experience working with data, analysis or modelling, are highly valuable.
We’re also increasingly interested in AI literacy, not simply knowing how to use AI tools, but understanding how they can be applied effectively and responsibly to research, analysis, problem-solving and productivity.
Other experiences can be equally valuable. Additional languages, particularly European languages, can be an advantage in our international environment, while consulting or consulting-adjacent internships can give you useful exposure to the way we work. Leadership, entrepreneurial initiative and evidence of strong problem-solving can come from anywhere whether through employment, university projects, societies, sport, volunteering or extracurricular activities.
Ultimately, we’re less interested in a checklist of experiences and more interested in what you have learned from them, how you have applied that learning and the potential you have to grow into a great consultant.
