Forward Deployed Engineer
Los Angeles · Posted 4h ago
Job Description
About the Role
We're an early-stage healthtech AI startup building a payer intelligence platform that streamlines the end-to-end payor compliance lifecycle — benefits verification, medical necessity audits, prior authorization, and appeals — for procedure-heavy specialties like Vascular Surgery, Interventional Cardiology, and Interventional Radiology.
As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll own the integration layer between our platform and the real-world provider and insurance systems it serves. Sitting at the intersection of our founding team and our clients, you'll translate messy healthcare workflows into clean technical solutions — building APIs, scrapers, and custom integrations that make our product fit seamlessly into each practice's stack. This is a high-ownership role where you'll ship fast, develop deep knowledge of the US healthcare landscape, and directly impact how surgical practices operate day to day.
What You'll Do
Build and maintain integrations with provider practices and insurance systems — using APIs where they exist, scrapers and RPA where they don't
Join client discovery sessions with founders to map real-world workflows and translate them into clear technical requirements
Ship custom integrations quickly and iterate based on real-world feedback
Contribute to the core product when integration work isn't the bottleneck
Develop a deep working knowledge of the US provider/payer landscape
What We're Looking For
Required
2–5 years of full-stack engineering experience building and shipping features end-to-end — from discovery through delivery
Startup background with broad ownership, comfort with ambiguity, and a track record of shipping in small teams
Proven experience integrating with third-party APIs
Proficiency in Python and FastAPI (or equivalent backend frameworks)
Proficiency in React and TypeScript (or equivalent frontend technologies)
Active use of AI coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) with shipped production work to show for it
Strong communication skills — able to clearly articulate technical problems and tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders
Nice to Have
Experience building web scrapers or RPA solutions
AWS or GCP cloud infrastructure experience
Experience building LLM features or AI applications in production (beyond coding tools)
Prior experience working in US healthcare or with provider/payer systems
Tech Stack: Python, FastAPI, React, TypeScript, Postgres, AWS, GCP, GitHub
Visa sponsorship: Not available
Compensation & Benefits
Salary: $150,000 – $230,000 USD annually, depending on experience
